Evidently, Manipur being a small state in the Union of India, in terms of population and size, the variety and rate of crime is quite high while conviction rate is very low. State data reports plenty of crimes Against Women & Children. Being border state near the Golden Triangle, number of drugs cases related to addiction as well as trafficking is very high. The problem of insurgency has also added a large variety and number of crimes including various sophisticated firearms. Rate of Digital/ Cybercrimes has been increasing very fast.Further, with the opening of Trans-Asian Highway to Myanmar through the border town Moreh in Manipur a lot of complicated international crimes are also expected to be dealt with in the near future. Looking into such urgent challenges in criminal justice system, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India has delegated an imperative assignment to National Forensics University (NFSU) to facilitate in creation of qualified manpower needed to strengthen crime investigations. Subsequently, a high-level team comprising of Executive Registrar, NFSU, Director-DFS, and Nodal officer East India made a courtesy visit to Hon'ble Chief Minister of Manipur Shri N. Biren Singh Ji for establishing an NFSU off-campus in Manipur. The Hon'ble Chief Minister gave the consent for the establishment of the NFSU campus for creating skilled manpower in Forensic Science and strengthening forensic capabilities of Manipur and neighbouring states. Following this major development a Tripartite MoU has been signed by NFSU, DFS and Govt. of Home Manipur to establish the Institute of Forensic Sciences for Training & Skilling (IFS-T&S), National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU)-Manipur.
A transit campus is being established at Sothern Wing of Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), Pangei and Govt. of Manipur has allotted nearly 5 acres of land adjacent to DFS-Manipur and 6th IRB at Pangei.The Campus offers Post Graduate Diploma Program in 5 different courses
The NFSU, Tripura campus also intends to offer short term training programme and need based workshops for police personnel, judiciary, security officials, bankers, chartered accountants and government officials of Tripura and from neighbouring states. In near future NFSU, Tripura campus has a goal to evolve itself into a centre for excellence in the field of analysis for narcotic drugs, wildlife crime, cyber security, nano technologies, anthropology, toxicological research in food and beverage analysis.
